The MDS Welcomes New Executive Director
SOUTHBOROUGH, Mass.—March 2, 2020—Association leader Conor McNulty, CAE, has been appointed Executive Director of the Massachusetts Dental Society (MDS), an association that represents 5,000-plus member dentists and a constituent of the American Dental Association.
McNulty has served as Executive Director of the Oregon Dental Association since 2014. Prior to Oregon, he served in various management roles with the California Dental Association, one of the largest and most innovative health care organizations in the country.
“I am very excited to welcome Conor to the MDS,” said Dr. Janis Moriarty, President of the Massachusetts Dental Society. “He is a dynamic, energizing person who comes highly recommended as being an insightful leader and team player. His experience in change management and governance reform will help him guide the MDS through the first years of our new governance structure. He is data driven and focused on successful outcomes, and I am very much looking forward to working with him.”
“After an extensive search, it became clear that several candidates stood out,” said Dr. David Lustbader, MDS Past President and Chair of the Executive Director Search Committee. “But there was an energy and excitement about Conor that made him our obvious and unanimous choice. I have participated in and chaired many national searches, and I can honestly say we have the great fortune of finding a truly remarkable fit for the next Executive Director of the Massachusetts Dental Society. This was an easy decision for us, and I believe this will be the foundation for taking the MDS to even greater heights.”
McNulty holds a Certified Association Executive designation from the American Society of Association Executives. Active and recognized as a leader within association management circles, he was honored as a Forty Under 40 Association Leader by Association Forum of Chicagoland and USAE News in 2017.
“I am honored and thrilled to join such a dynamic and respected organization as the Massachusetts Dental Society,” said McNulty. “I look forward to supporting MDS members and am excited to work closely with the leadership and talented staff to continue advancing the strategic vision of the organization each day.”
Prior to association work, McNulty spent time in corporate marketing, publishing, and business development. He earned his bachelor’s degree in marketing from the University of San Francisco.
McNulty will assume his responsibilities as Executive Director of the Massachusetts Dental Society on March 9, 2020. He succeeds Dr. Robert Boose, CAE, who is retiring as the Society’s Executive Director after 18 years of service.
The Massachusetts Dental Society engaged Kittleman & Associates, a national executive search firm, in mid-2019 to conduct the Executive Director search.
