Dr. Charles Greffrath

Charles Greffrath, DMD, Region 2 Trustee

Charles Greffrath, DMD,  Massachusetts Dental Society Region 2 Trustee. With a dad who was a machinist tool maker and a mom who was an art teacher, Charles Greffrath, DMD, thought he might make the best use of himself by working with his hands. After deciding he would fix teeth, Dr. Greffrath attended Tufts University School of Dental Medicine as one of the last “wet-finger dentists”—before masks and gloves were the norm—and practiced as a general dentist for over 40 years. Last summer, Dr. Greffrath retired from practicing and is now a retired Massachusetts Dental Society life member.

Dr. Greffrath began his career as a dentist in the military. The military exposed him to two life-changing experiences, one, the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) in dentistry, and two, flying planes. Through an ROTC Flight Instruction Program, Dr. Greffrath earned his pilot’s license. If not a dentist, he might have pursued a career as a pilot - but he is quick to add if he were not a dentist or pilot, he would be happy selling hot dogs out of his own food truck.

After leaving the service and starting a private dental practice, Dr. Greffrath became involved with the Massachusetts Dental Society (MDS). It was William Dennis, DDS, who first got Dr. Greffrath involved with the MDS Peer Review Program. More than twenty years later, the MDS is excited to welcome Dr. Greffrath as a Regional Trustee on the Board of Trustees for the 2023-2024 governance year. As a Regional Trustee, he will have the opportunity to play a significant role in setting the long-term direction of the MDS.
