Dr. Abe Abdul

President

Abe Abdul, DMD, MBA, MAGD, ABGD, FAAHD, FICD, FACD. Massachusetts Dental Society President. Dr. Abdul's passion for helping others began at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, where he witnessed the struggles of the neighboring Chinatown community in accessing dental care. Driven by his fluency in three Chinese dialects, he initiated an outreach program benefiting thousands of residents through screenings, dental supplies, and education. Recognized as an Albert Schweitzer Fellow, his selfless work set the foundation for his future endeavors.

Completing a fellowship at Harvard Dental School and residency at Harvard Medical School/Brigham and Women's Hospital, Dr. Abdul gained invaluable experience treating patients from diverse backgrounds at the Brookside Health Center. Guided by mentors like Dr. Kanchan Ganda and Dr. Eleni Gagari, he developed a compassionate approach to addressing unique healthcare needs. In 2005, he started Lux Dental Inc., a practice with multiple locations committed to improving access to care for underserved populations. Dr. Abdul's advocacy extends to programs such as the Ryan White Program (which provides care for those living with HIV/AIDS) and MassHealth, recognizing their vital role in serving those who otherwise might not receive oral health care.

With a focus on continually giving back to his profession and patients, Dr. Abdul was a founding member of the 2022 medical loss ratio initiative on the Massachusetts ballot in November 2022. The initiative, which passed with a landslide victory, is set to become law in January 2024. A key player in unifying the dental profession, Dr. Abdul was recognized for his efforts by the American Dental Association (ADA) with a Presidential Citation. The Citation identified Dr. Abdul for his "impassioned work toward revolutionizing dental insurance for all" and "loyalty" to the profession. Beyond his professional achievements, Dr. Abdul cherishes his personal life. Residing in Holbrook, MA, with his life partner, Ms. LoAn Huynh, and his mother, Ms. Salima Shah, he finds joy in their company. In his leisure time, he indulges a passion for travel and exploring international cuisine.
