According to the ADA News, the American Dental Association (ADA) Council on Dental Benefit Programs recently released a guide outlining best practices to ensure the accuracy of claims submitted on behalf of dentists. This resource was developed after the ADA House of Delegates passed Resolution 93H amid a growing trend of claims submitted on behalf of employee dentists without their consent.
Treating dentists are responsible for assuring the accuracy of submitted claims. Both electronic and paper claims require that the treating dentist certifies that the claim correctly reflects the procedures performed.
The MDS Dental Practice and Benefits (DPB) Committee encourages all dental offices to review and follow this guide. The Committee also suggests that office staff or billing partners allow the treating dentist to review all claims detailing services rendered before submission.
The DPB Committee recommends that you discuss this claim consent process at an upcoming staff meeting and share the information with your billing partner if you use a billing service.
