Registration: 12:00 pm
Seminar: 12:30–2:30 pm
CE Type: Lecture

Effective infection prevention requires more than simply following a checklist—it depends on consistent practices at every point of patient care. This course provides dental professionals with a practical review of infection control procedures, from preparing the treatment room and using appropriate personal protective equipment to safely processing instruments and monitoring sterilization.

Attendees will examine common infection control risks, identify breakdowns that can lead to cross-contamination, and learn strategies for strengthening compliance with current Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), OSHA, and the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Dentistry (BORID) requirements. Emphasis will be placed on applying evidence-based practices that protect patients, safeguard the dental team, and support a culture of safety throughout the practice.

After completing this course, attendees will be able to:

  • Identify common infection control risks and opportunities for cross-contamination in the dental setting
  • Demonstrate appropriate procedures for treatment-room preparation, personal protective equipment, and environmental disinfection.
  • Describe the essential steps for safe instrument cleaning, packaging, sterilization, and storage
  • Explain the purpose of mechanical, chemical, and biological monitoring of sterilization processes
  • Apply CDC, OSHA, and state infection control requirements to strengthen safety and compliance in daily practice
