Advertise “Specialist” Carefully

A Massachusetts dentist may advertise as a specialist only if they:

  • Have completed a specialty program approved by the American Dental Association’s (ADA) Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) or the Commission on Dental Accreditation of Canada.
  • Limit their practice only to the specialty area(s) being advertised, listed, or published.
  • Are a diplomate or eligible for examination by an ADA-recognized national specialty board.

If you have “additional” (but not specialist) skills and training, advertise accurately with:

  • …additional postdoctoral training in…
  • …extensive experience and training in…
  • …particularly renowned for…

Don’t get yourself in trouble with BORID—advertise carefully and honestly!
