Maritza Morell, DMD, MP, Massachusetts Dental Society Secretary. Dr. Maritza Morell is the current MDS Secretary and the past Trustee for Region 6 and Merrimack Valley District. Her journey into dentistry began as a young child, when she developed a unique bond with her dentist and orthodontist, who inspired her to pursue a career in the field. 

After completing her dental education at the University of Michigan and the University of Puerto Rico, Dr. Morell moved to Andover, MA. She began her career as the director of pre-doctoral pediatric dentistry at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine (HSDM) and Boston Children’s Hospital while furthering her studies in public health at Harvard University. In addition to maintaining private pediatric dentistry and orthodontic practices in Lawrence and Andover, Massachusetts, Dr. Morell continues as the co-director of pre-doctoral pediatric dentistry at HSDM, a researcher, lecturer, and advocate for children’s dental access issues. In 2013, she was the president of the National Hispanic Dental Association. She also served as a trustee on the boards of the Hispanic Dental Association, the Hispanic Dental Association Foundation, and the American Dental Association (ADA) Foundation. A graduate of both the ADA and MDS Leadership Institutes, Dr. Morell was a past member of the ADA Committee on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, an examiner for the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, and a site visitor for the Commission on Dental Accreditation. She is also a fellow of the American College of Dentists and the International College of Dentists, and a diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. 

Dr. Morell has mentored hundreds of dental students, residents, dental assistants, dental hygienists, and college and high school students interested in pursuing a career in dentistry. She is most proud of her service, caring for many patients with special health care needs.
