Marc Ackerman, DMD, a new member of the Massachusetts Dental Society (MDS) Guest Board, is a third-generation dentist, specializing in orthodontics. Although he was always keen on joining the “family business,” upon entering the field, he quickly developed a passion for patient care. Something a colleague shared with him early in his career is a piece of advice he shares with prospective dentists: “Choose a profession that you truly enjoy so that work feels like play.”
A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine DMD program and a recipient of a certificate in orthodontics from the University of Rochester-Eastman Dental Center, Dr. Ackerman is currently the director of orthodontics at Boston Children’s Hospital. If that doesn’t keep him busy enough, he also runs a small orthodontics practice in Andover, MA.
Always open to trying new things, Dr. Ackerman became involved with the MDS after being encouraged by his friend, Dr. Martiza Morell, the current secretary of the Board of Trustees. When he’s not seeing patients or teaching, you’ll find him on the court playing tennis or a sport called “hard rackets,” which is similar to squash.
