Speaker Bio

Dr. Miguel A. Ortiz is a Prosthodontist, Biochemist, Philosopher, and the founder of Lit Dental Esthetics & Implant Center in Wayland, MA, where he practices alongside his wife, Colleen Ortiz, and a dedicated team. He specializes in aesthetic and implant dentistry, full mouth rehabilitation, and bone regeneration, providing comprehensive and high-quality care. Dr. Ortiz’s journey in dentistry began in 2002 as a Dental Technician. He earned a B.S. in Biochemistry with Honors from California State University. He was then recruited to the prestigious Harvard School of Dental Medicine, where he received his Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry (DMD) and won the Leo Talkoy Award for excellence in clinical dentistry.

He completed his Prosthodontics training at the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2017. Throughout his career, Dr. Ortiz has been passionate about sharing his knowledge. As a student, he used his skills as a professional photographer to document his restorative work and teach others. This led to the creation of highly successful Dr. Miguel A. Ortiz Dental Photography Courses, which have been sold out in numerous cities worldwide. Building on this success, he published his first book, LIT, with Quintessence in 2019, providing a comprehensive guide to dental photography.

Driven by his passion for teaching and evidence-based dentistry, Dr. Ortiz founded The DentLit Academy. This organization is dedicated to best practices where the art and science of dentistry intersect, providing a resource for dental professionals seeking answers to common questions and promoting the principle of “following the DentLit, not the dentist.” Dr. Ortiz also leads several sold-out annual conferences and hands-on courses globally, and he lectures worldwide, including in Malaysia, Australia, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Canada, the Dominican Republic, Panama, the USA, Spain, South Africa, and many other countries.

His courses cover topics such as adhesive reconstruction, tooth preparations, occlusion, provisionalization, impression techniques, and dental materials. He offers both live and online learning opportunities. Dr. Ortiz is also the author of The Awareness of Becoming Conscious and The Loop of Suffering, two philosophical explorations that move beyond dentistry and into the heart of human experience. These works examine the nature of consciousness, identity, and suffering, blending narrative and philosophical inquiry to challenge the boundaries between science, self, and meaning.

Looking Ahead Dr. Ortiz remains dedicated to providing exceptional patient care, advancing dental education, and sharing his expertise with the dental community.

Dr. Ortiz has no financial conflicts to disclose.
