Colleen Chambers, DMD, Region 1 Trustee

Colleen Chambers, DMD, Massachusetts Dental Society Region 1 Trustee. Described by friends as supportive, caring, and humorous, Colleen Chambers, DMD, always knew she wanted to be a dentist. The Massachusetts Dental Society (MDS) Region 1 Trustee remembers watching Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer as a little girl and being fascinated with Hermey, the misfit elf who wanted to be a dentist. Her interest grew as she entered middle school and realized “the impact that a smile could have on a person’s life. My smile transformation with my orthodontic work gave me confidence and helped me realize dentistry is the perfect blend of art and science,” she shared.

A graduate of the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine and an Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) program at Virginia Commonwealth University, Dr. Chambers has been a general practice dentist for eight years and currently works in Amherst, MA. Her involvement with the MDS began when she was selected as one of the MDS 10 Under Ten. The annual award goes to ten MDS members who have been practicing dentistry for 10 years or less and give back to their profession or community. Receiving that award enlightened her about the opportunities the Society offers. It helped her realize how important it is for dental professionals to advocate for their patients and the region, especially being from western MA.

One of the things that most surprises Dr. Chambers about her chosen career path is the variety that each day brings. “No two days are the same, and there is always something to keep you on your toes,” she explained. To help maintain a healthy work-life balance, Dr. Chambers enjoys playing pool with her husband, painting, or doing a vigorous dance workout. She has tried to follow the advice given to her many years ago by her mentor Dr. Fred Perry, always allowing time for personal and professional growth to maintain a healthy balance.
