The Worcester District Dental Society has the following meetings and events scheduled. All meetings will be held at the Worcester Club, 1 Oak Street in Worcester, with cocktails served at 6:00 P.M., followed by dinner and meeting at 6:30 P.M., unless otherwise indicated.

  • Tuesday, April 14, 2015 - Annual meeting and Risk Management Seminar. Speaker Debra K. Udey, Risk Manager at EDIC.

    Seminar Description: Through the practice of dentistry is largely straightforward, there are potential traps that can lead to claims of malpractice. Through case studies, these areas will be presented, highlighting holes that can be plugged to prevent claims. Each area in a practice – clinical, communication, and documentation must be appropriately addressed by both dentists and staff to ensure the practice runs in a safe manner. Come learn simple steps you can take to make your practice safer for your patients and for you.

    Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of the seminar, attendees will be able to recognize proper informed consent to prevent claims of failure to advise. To document appropriately to clearly show the treatment plan as well as implement techniques to improve communications with patients. Learn effective methods to deal with disappointed patients and employ overall strategies to reduce exposure/risk.

    • All participants will receive 2 Continuing Education Credits.
    • Attendance at this seminar can count towards a 5% discount on your EDIC Professional Liability insurance.

    Presenter: Debra K. Udey is the Risk Manager at EDIC. Debra’s many years of experience plays a significant role in the development of their annual Risk Management Education Program. Ms. Udey has been in the Medical Malpractice field for over 30 years, 12 of which were spent in medical malpractice claims for a physician owned company as well as in the hospital setting. Since then, she has put her claims experience to good use on the Risk Management side of professional liability insurance.

    The Heart Walk represents the community's opportunity every year to support the programs provided by the Heart Association, such as:

    • Putting up to the minute research into doctor's hand so they can better prevent and treat heart disease among patients through programs such as Get with the Guidelines at Saint Vincent Hospital, UMass Memorial Health Care and Milford Regional Medical Center among others.
    • Ground breaking pediatric heart and stroke research. About 36,000 babies are born with heart defects each year, research is the key to saving babies lives.
    • Getting life-saving information to those who need it most ;information that can save a life, like how to eat better, how to recognize the warning signs of a heart attack, and how to talk to a doctor about critical health choices.
    • The American Heart Association is currently funding more than $1.4 million in active medical research grants in Worcester and Central MA.
