District Meetings and Events
The East Middlesex District has the following meetings and events scheduled. All meetings are held at the Burlington Marriott, 1 Burlington Mall Road, Burlington, MA 01813, with Hospitality starting at 6:00 p.m. and the dinner meeting starting at 6:30 p.m. Attendees will receive 2 CE credits for each completed course. Tuesday, February 9, 2016 - Infection Control: Implementing a Culture of Safety in your Practice, presented by Kathy Eklund, RDH, MPH. This course meets BORID course requirement for infection control.
The goal of an infection prevention and control program is to prevent health-care associated infections and injuries and illnesses in health-care personnel. This presentation will review a "best practices" framework for developing and managing an effective and efficient infection control and safety program that promotes patient and personnel safety. Strategies for ensuring compliance with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations and other relevant recommendations, regulations and standards will be a discussed. Resources and tools from the CDC, OSHA, the Organization for Safety Asepsis and Prevention (OSAP), and others will be shared with participants.
Upon completion of this session, participants should be able to:
• Describe the basic concepts and foundational principles of "Best Practices" for infection prevention and control.
• Identify credible resources for Infection Prevention and Control.
• Use tools and resources to develop best practices for a site-specific infection prevention and control program.
Speaker Bio: Kathy J. Eklund RDH, MHP
Ms. Eklund is the Director of Occupational Health and Safety, and the Forsyth Research Subject and Patient Safety Advocate at The Forsyth Institute. She is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the Forsyth School of Dental Hygiene at MCPHS University and Adjunct Faculty at the Mount Ida College School for Dental Hygiene, where she teaches senior level courses in Oral Health Research and Evidence-Based Decision Making. Ms. Eklund serves as faculty for the New England AIDS Education and Training Center and HIVdent.org. She is a member and past Chair of the Organization for Safety, Asepsis and Prevention (OSAP) and current member of the OSAP Board of Directors. Ms. Eklund is an author of the CDC Guidelines for Infection Control in Dental Health-Care Settings- 2003.
Over the past 28 years, Ms. Eklund has published papers and contributed to several texts on infection control and safety and has lectured nationally and internationally on these topics.
