Government Affairs Committee Webinar
Please join the MDS as we kick off our Legislative/Advocacy webinar series. During this four-part series, you will learn how state government and the legislature impact the dental profession.
As an MDS member, you play a vital role in the development and implementation of sound public policy to help advance the dental profession in the Commonwealth. Few institutions are closer to the real problems of people than we are. Your expertise can help be an important bridge to policy makers on Beacon Hill. A strong and effective advocacy program helps raise awareness and serves as an educational tool for lawmakers. Through lobbying and other forms of legislative advocacy, the MDS helps provide our perspective to state lawmakers and regulators, resulting in improved laws and policies.
Topic: Understanding Assignment of Benefits and Medical Loss RatioJoin MDS Director of Government Affairs and Public Relations Brian Monteiro, MDS Government Affairs Committee Consultant Dr. Andrew Tonelli, and Roger Donoghue and Tara O’Donnell of Murphy Donoghue Partners for the first webinar in our 2021 MDS legislative webinar series. In this webinar, you will develop an understanding of the MDS legislative agenda. This webinar will be focused on two pending pieces of legislation that the MDS is supporting:
-
H. 1181 – An Act Relative to Increasing Patient Choice Through Assignment of Benefits
This legislation would require all insurance carriers to permit a covered person to direct in writing that reimbursable benefits for covered services be paid directly to the treating dentist of their choice.
-
H. 1182/S. 632 – An Act Relative to Medical Loss Ratio Reporting for Dental Benefits Corporations
This legislation would require dental benefits companies to submit medical loss ratio data to the Department of Insurance (DOI). The legislation also would require carriers to file annual financial reports with the DOI, including detailing self-funded lines of business.
