The Massachusetts Dental Society (MDS) is a professional association dedicated to improving the oral health of the public and the professional development of its membership through initiatives in education, advocacy, and promotion of the highest professional standards. To accomplish these goals, the MDS engages in political advocacy, access to care, various communications—including publications, website, and social networking—and produces an annual dental conference in Boston. Marketing Specialist

The Marketing Specialist will be responsible for driving, creating, and implementing direct marketing programs and collateral to support membership recruitment and retention efforts. He/she will be tasked with nurturing initiatives through digital, print, and content marketing. The Marketing Specialist must be a team player capable of building strong relationships with the other members of the team to execute marketing plans and identify opportunities to increase the Society's mindshare.


Job Description and Major Responsibilities:

  • Craft targeted value-based messages for specific programs and events including various mediums such as print, social media, email, and the web
  • Collaborate with cross functional areas, as well as graphic designers and project managers, to maintain a consistent brand voice and message across all programs.
  • Create or modify existing marketing collateral to support new targeted initiatives and to articulate the benefits of MDS membership
  • Manipulate content in CMS, including: writing and updating copy, as well as proofreading
  • Generate reports for campaigns and track success with the project manager
  • Coordinate with outside vendors such as printers, mail houses, and other agencies

Skills and Qualifications:

  • 1-3 years marketing experience (previous experience with an association a plus)
  • Strong project management experience with adept planning skills
  • Salesforce experience preferred (but not required)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills—there is a heavy amount of writing in this role
  • Ability to drive ideas to execution
  • Prefer working in a collaborative, cross-team capacity
  • Must be able to handle multiple projects with grace and ease
  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, or comparable education/experience

  • Must be able to see to read documents on paper, on computer monitors, and/or on hand-held mobile devices
  • Must be able to hear the spoken word (either naturally or assisted) in person, by telephone, and/or by video conferencing
