About MassDentist CARE

1. Who is eligible to participate in MassDentists CARE?
  • Children through the age of 18 from income-eligible families who do not have either dental insurance or MassHealth coverage are invited to participate.

2. Which dental procedures are included under MassDentists CARE?
  • Emergency exams
  • Emergency treatment
  • X rays
  • Routine exams
  • Cleanings
  • Fluoride treatments
  • Sealants
  • Extractions
  • Fillings

If your child is in need of a dental procedure that is not on the list, the dentist may charge his or her regular fee for it.

3. What will I be charged for these services?
  • All participating dentists have agreed to charge reduced fees for approved procedures that a child receives. Because dentists' fees vary, the Massachusetts Dental Society cannot provide you with information regarding the cost of procedures. Approved parents are encouraged to contact their MassDentists CARE provider before appointments to determine what fees will be charged.

4. When is payment expected?
  • This program does NOT provide free dental care. Payment is expected at the time your child receives treatment.

5. How do I find a provider?
  • Once you are appoved for the program, you will receive a list of providers in your area.

Apply for MassDentist Care

Complete an application and send to the MDS at the address below along with copies of financial documentation, such as your two most recent pay stubs or your most recent W-2s or 1040 Forms. All information is kept strictly confidential, and financial records are destroyed after eligibility is determined.

Please allow two weeks for the application process to be completed. You will be notified by mail regarding the status of your application. If your application has been approved, you will receive a list of dentists who participate in the program. Your child may go to any of the dentists on the list provided to you, but you must call for an appointment.

If your child is approved for the program, he or she will be eligible to participate for two years. At the end of this time, you may reapply for the program.

The MassDentists CARE program is being offered to the public on a provider-availability basis.
