Schedule or Table of Allowance Plans

Schedule or Table of Allowance Plans have a list of covered services with an assigned dollar amount that the insurance company will pay for the services that are on the list.

Most often, the amount the insurance company will pay does not represent the dentist’s full charge for the services, and the patient pays the difference.

As with the Usual, Customary, and Reasonable (UCR) schedule, if the insurance company does not adjust its schedule/table periodically to reflect rising dental costs or changes in dentists’ fees, the patient will pay a larger share of the cost. In addition, if the insurance company does not change its list of covered services to reflect advancements in dental care and new techniques, patients will have not have the option of receiving new services unless they pay the entire fee themselves.

Key Facts

  • Allow freedom of choice of dentist
